Our project focused on the demolition and replacement of the garden’s aging stream system. The new concrete-lined, recirculating stream reduces water consumption, captures runoff, and recycles water for irrigation—enhancing sustainability while preserving existing trees vital to the garden’s character.
A grand waterfall marks the garden’s entry, creating a strong sense of arrival. From this headwaters feature, the stream flows downhill, transporting organic material and nutrients to support the garden’s interconnected ecosystems. Along its path, a series of streams and ponds provides soothing sound and essential aeration to support aquatic plants and wildlife.
Shallow pond shelves support diverse aquatic planting and habitat enrichment.
Improved and expanded walking paths trace the stream’s course, offering places for pause and reflection. Two new pedestrian bridges provide easy crossings and enhance accessibility.
The lower koi pond and catchment pond offer still, reflective water and serve as reservoirs for the garden’s irrigation system. A new seatwall provides a peaceful place for reading, studying, or simply enjoying the surroundings.
