The American Concrete Institute presents the People’s Choice Award to the 5900 Wilshire renovation project. The project was nominated as one of seven projects worldwide in ACI’s 6th annual Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards in the Decorative Concrete Category.
The renovated tower and pavilion complex engages the street scene and provides more amenities for tenants while also reducing water use. Breaking away from the axial and rectilinear spatial geometries associated with the original elevated plaza, bridge, and stair sequence, the renovation’s sweeping curved forms create smooth transitions, mingling street life with office life. Lagoons and lawns are replaced with carefully arranged lower water use/higher-interest plantings to echo the pools. The landscape features furnished breakout spaces bridging the office buildings to the street and providing opportunities for impromptu meetings in the warm LA sun.
