Zamora Park

El Monte, CA

In the San Gabriel River Valley, waters flow toward El Monte, and people follow. The redesign of Zamora Park draws from the city’s long history as a place where waters and trails converge, creating a wooded, shaded oasis within an otherwise arid landscape. This story shapes the park’s water play, expansive lawns, community gathering spaces, climate-appropriate planting, fitness equipment, sport court, and playground. Beneath the canopy of mature existing trees, a new urban forest grows—providing shade, strengthening connections, and creating a welcoming landscape for generations to come.

New multilingual interpretive signage uncovers the stories of water, ecology, and movement woven throughout the landscape, revealing systems often hidden in plain sight.

Enhanced recreational amenities, including outdoor fitness equipment and a new restroom building, create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming park that encourages physical activity, outdoor play, and community connection for residents of all ages and abilities.

The splash pad offers an inviting place to cool off and play, with interactive water features that spark curiosity and exploration.
