River Oaks Park

San Jose, CA

Formerly the site of a Sony manufacturing facility, River Oaks Park is a crescent-shaped public park serving both the Crescent Park apartments that surround it and the greater (and rapidly expanding) San Jose region. Recreation opportunities divide the site into active and passive zones. Tennis, basketball, children’s playground, picnic areas, and a generous lawn for pick-up games make up the active zone while a trail meanders through a grove of saved Coast Redwoods and a majestic Valley Oak tree in a quiet riparian zone.

An award winner for demonstrating excellence in treating stormwater as an amenity, the park is a healthy place on multiple levels.

The preservation of dozens of mature trees grounds the park in its existing local landscape.
