Developed by The Trust For Public Land with the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, this one-acre pocket park in South Central Los Angeles responds to a diversity of needs in a community where access to outdoor recreational space is severely lacking. We collaborated with TPL and Breen Engineering to create a multi-faceted park designed to be meaningful, memorable, and fun. Drawing inspiration from the community's history and the site's unique location along a railroad, a railroad theme was applied throughout the design of the park's playgrounds, gathering spaces, and picnic shelters. Shade trees, boulders, and drought-tolerant gardens throughout are combined with the work of local artists, instilling a sense of pride and awareness of the community's cultural roots. A rolling lawn, skate park, jogging path, and fitness zones encourage community members of all ages to engage in healthy activities.
