The new Rancho Campana High School and Performing Arts Center campus inhabits an area overlapped with natural and cultural systems. Surrounding the site, furrowed lines of strawberry fields and arcing neighborhood streets lie along the meandering creek that left centuries of rich soil in the agricultural valley. A broad view of the hills to the north position students as they learn about their local ecology. Revelatory design translates the layered site history into a legible landscape that encourages students to explore, enjoy, and ultimately cherish the grounds around them. The framework provides opportunities to harvest water, food, energy and knowledge with stormwater treatment planters, fruit orchards, renewable energy capture, and stations to track bird sitings and seasonal transformations.
